The Lonely Queen
If you have followed my last couple of posts you will know that I am making lots of journals for the shows I am doing later this year. I had made a stack of hand-bound journals using coffee stained papers. It just so happened that I had a stack of the papers left over that were not the right size for the bound journals. See the stack with the holes in it?

What to do? What to do? Well it so happened that the holes all lined up perfectly so really all I needed was to find a cover that fit and some book rings. I found an old book called, “Asylum For The Queen”. I never read it but I loved the title. Here is the finished journal.

I had to add pretty ribbons and charms, including a crown as the title dictated.
Bees remind me of Marie Antoinette.
On some of the pages I stamped images that remind me of old royalty.

This journal has blank pages, except for the few stamps, to allow for lots of journaling or space for smashing other ephemera.
I’m so happy I was able to use every last piece of the papers I had stained from that project!
Treasure Hunting
Well this week really flew by. Why, I don’t know. But here it is Saturday evening and I don’t have any arts or crafts to show you. So, instead I will show you some treasures I hunted today. Mossy Cottage has been getting a little thin on inventory so I started to remedy that today. The weather was excellent for treasure hunting, but I did have to hold a hot cup of chai tea early this morning or my hands would have frozen off. There were many treasures to be had, and all the people I dealt with were treasures themselves. I love talking and joking with people I buy from! Well enough chit chat, let’s get on with the goodies!
Here we have a white wicker child’s hamper. It has a cute quilted plastic lid. There is a white wicker trash can with an applique pillow case, a pink sewing box, some pink VA beach salt and pepper shakers and a Golden Book about kittens (go figure).
Look at these awesome shakers from the 1950’s. The picture is too bright for you to see the wonderful pink plastic under all that glitter! And the one on the right says, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Here are some really nice old children’s books. The illustrations in them are fantastic! I know these are antiques because they were even before my time!!!!
Next we have a hand painted tray from the 1950’s. There are also three nice old mirror plateaus with metal roses bordering each. Unfortunately I didn’t clean them before I photographed them, but they really did clean up nicely.
Here is a group of what I consider “mantiques” The shoe form is hollowed out and will make a great business card holder. The green metal tin will get decorated somehow. The black case in the red tool holder is a Milton Bradley game called “Pass the Pig”. It has two little plastic pigs, a score pad and a little pencil in the case. It is from 1974 and there are no instructions. I’ll have to google how to play the game. The faucet handles are pretty cool too. I’ve seen people make statement jewelry out of them.
This is actually two white 1950’s dresses with tulle. Obviously the one in the back is hidden.
There are a few other things I got but some are already in the laundry and others just didn’t fit into a grouping. All in all I am very satisfied with today’s treasures, both the things I bought and the people I met. God blessed me mightily today!
Paper Pouches Many Ways
Today I am going to teach you, or most likely re-teach you, how to make fun little paper pouches. Most of us made these when we were kids, we just can’t remember that far back!!! These little pouches can be filled with candy, cookies, candy, notes, candy, gift cards, candy, small toys or whatever candy else you fancy. You can make them BIG or small, that’s up to you. Use any kind of paper, kraft, wrapping, maps, music, magazine pages, old book pages, vintage wall paper, old ledger paper, newspaper and the list goes on.
So let’s get started shall we?
First, cut a piece of paper in a square. Mine range from 7″ to 9″ square.
Fold the paper in half to form a triangle.
Fold the right side up and over until it reaches the very left edge. In this picture it looks like I didn’t fold it over far enough but that’s just because it popped up while I was taking the picture. I didn’t want to hold it down because then you would see how desperately I need a manicure!
Then fold the left side up and over to meet the very right edge. In this picture it looks like I folded it over too far and it’s hanging off the edge but that is just the camera angle. (See, I told you I needed to do my nails)!
Fold down the front point until it’s even along the top edge. Then flip it over and
fold over the other point on the back. At this point you can puff it out a bit and you’ll see how much room you’ll have to put candy stuff inside.
Here is an assortment I made using different papers, sizes and embellishments. These are a great size for putting gift cards or $$$ in!!! See the one on the bottom left that say’s “16, Happy Birthday”? I’ll give you one guess who will be getting that next month, probably with some $$$ bills rolled up and put inside.
And here’s a special one I made for —– who will probably get it on Monday filled with my homemade chocolate chip cookies or peanut butter chocolate chip granola bars (I know she loves them)! Because I knew I was going to put a wire handle on this one, I put grommets in the punched holes to make them stronger so they would not tear.
This is such a fun little project and so easy. It’s nice to have a couple on hand to fill with candy last minute gifts. But be careful though, they are addictive to make and decorate!!!!
