A True Tail Tale

Yesterday morning at 6am one of my wildest nightmares came true. You see, I like to get up early on weekends and enjoy that peaceful time of day. I love to get a cup of coffee and look at Pinterest for a while. Yesterday was no different…to begin with. I went downstairs to get my coffee and Louie was at my feet. It was still dark and Holly ran in the kitchen to greet me not aware that Louie was right there. Now don’t get me wrong, they have made great strides in the “getting used to each other” phase, but they’re not quite there yet. The hissing began much to my  chagrin. This one…

Louie

is clueless that this one….

Holly Golightly

doesn’t always want him in her face. So Holly backed up onto the hearth (behind her in the picture) and got to close to this…..

Naughty Pilot Light

It’s hard to see in this picture, but there is a pilot light on in this gas fireplace. Do I really need to tell you the rest of the story??? You guessed it. Her beautiful tail went right into the pilot light and started to fry. Her hair is so long that she was oblivious when her tail ignited in a great big pouf!  When she did feel the heat she darted out of the fireplace. She thankfully ran by me, flaming tail and all, so I could bend down and extinguish it with my hands. This is how her beautiful tail looked post trauma…

Singed Tail

Well Holly seems to be none the worse for the wear and it was not much later that I took this picture of her with Louie….

Friends Taking a Nap

Now when we first got Holly I noticed she was a very curious kitty, and still is. I told Martin that one day she would catch herself on fire because she would get too close to the fireplace. He told me it would never happen. I am going to use all the restraint I can muster and not say those four words nobody wants to hear!!! Anyway, I can laugh at my flaming kitty today because I know she is alright. Yesterday morning I was a little shaken though, so to get over it I gave myself extra Pinterest time. All better!!!

The Big Meet and Greet

By now most of my readers know who this is….

Image

But do you know who this is?

Image

This is Louie our new cat rescue. We got him from the Caroline County Humane Society. He is 4 years old and his previous owner had to go into a nursing home. We got Louie for Holly because she really needs someone to play with and to keep her company when we’re gone all day. We had him upstairs for a couple of days to get used to us and his new house. Friday afternoon we felt it was time to introduce Holly and Louie.

Image

Here they are checking each other out for the first time.

Image

Louie ran behind the door and Holly followed him. You can just see his little nose sticking out from behind the door.

Image

Then she followed him back out.

Image

Louie went back in and started checking out her litter box. This is probably the cat equivalent of people looking in other people’s medicine cabinets.

Image

Then Holly watched Louie.

Image

And Louie watched Holly.

After a while they ended up in the sun room “tolerating” each other. And they all lived happily ever after……NOT!

Yesterday morning, just when we thought they were getting used to each other, they got into an all out scuffle with claws and scratching and hissing and me becoming a nervous wreck. Everyone says, “Oh, they’re just figuring out whose boss” etc…And things like, “It will only take a couple of days, or months, or years for them to establish the pecking order”. Huh? We got Louie to be a friend for Holly to play with and cuddle. What I got is a bad case of nerves. I am walking on egg shells hoping they don’t run into each other. At this point I’d be happy if Louie just stayed upstairs where he seems happiest and Holly stayed downstairs where she is happiest. Holly is scared now and stays hidden. Louie comes downstairs, walks around once and goes right back upstairs. Somehow this is not what I pictured getting another cat would be like.

What I need is my dear readers to reassure me that 1) this is totally normal. 2) this will end tomorrow and 3) they will fall deeply in love and we will all live happily ever after!!!!

Can “Do”

Every once in a while I mention her in my blog posts.

Miss Holly Golightly

Miss Holly Golightly

What I have never mentioned before is her preferred dining choice, which is this.

Buju and Ziggy Cat Food

Buju and Ziggie Cat Food

Miss Golightly only eats 1/3 of a can of wet food a day, but we still seem to put a lot of her cans in the recycling bin. So of course I’m thinking, “What can I do with these empty cans? This is the first idea I came up with. After washing the can out really well (ewwww!) I lined the inside and out with interesting papers.

buju1

As you can see from this picture the papers don’t match, which was intentional and not just an error because I wasn’t wearing my glasses.

buju2Then I stamped some text on old ledger paper and glued it to the bottom of the can with an additional piece of ledger paper “just because”. Please excuse the darkness of these pictures. I seems my photographer, poor dear, is still being challenged by her new camera. Maybe one day she’ll catch up to 21st century technology, however, I don’t have my fingers crossed.
buju3Graphics were also randomly added to the outside of the can. I made this one look like a tag from a nature journal, at least that was my intention.

buju4A piece of twine and a button were inserted through a hole I punched in the edge of the can to make a hanging loop. Some sticks left over from my post “Cardboard, Twine, Stick” were glued to the back and some lace and sticks were glued to the bottom edge. You can see what’s coming next, can’t you?

buju5A fancy little bird wearing a rhinestone necklace and some flowers to complete the Can “Do”.

Now, I understand that not everyone is going to like this particular look, but the possibilities are endless for decorating your cans. So the next time you are about to throw away or recycle a cat food or tuna can (isn’t it the same stuff?) dust the cobwebs out and think of a way to create your own can “do”!!!

A little post script –  next week I will reveal the studio/office makeover!!!

NO WAY!

Have you ever been somewhere and you see something awesome that just makes you stop in your tracks and think (or yell out loud) NO WAY!!! Well, I had one of these moments this past weekend. First I need to give you a little background. Hopefully most of you know who this is….

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly

Now, if you have read my blog a couple of times you should also know who this is….

A naughty kitty named Holly Golightly

You see, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of my favorite movies. Of course it features Audrey Hepburn, but did you know that in the movie she has a cat named CAT? Anyway, imagine my reaction when I found this at a flea market this past Saturday….

A Cat dressed up like Holly Golightly!

NO WAY! This is a packaged of “10 refreshing, fragranced hand and face mini wet wipes in a resealable pack”. It has a picture of a cat dressed up as Holly Golightly. There was absolutely no chance of me leaving these behind. I bought the only two packages with this picture that the lady had. I am thinking that MAYBE, MAYBE I’ll give the second pack away in my 25th blog giveaway along with a bunch of other goodies to ONE lucky winner this time. Oooooh, I wasn’t going to mention this but I just have to because ( I’m an A type) something’s not quite right with these wipes. The manufacturer says these wipes are “My Pear Lady” fragranced wipes. They got Breakfast at Tiffany’s mixed up with another Audrey Hepburn film called, “My Fair Lady”. Okay, I know, I’m too picky and most of you don’t care anyway!!! I hope you all get some fun “NO WAY” moments this week, especially now that the Christmas rush is upon us. Keep reading my blog and watch out for my 25th blog giveaway!!!
