Ode To Spring ATCs
As I have seen the first signs of Spring here in Virginia I was moved to make some art that reflects my joy that Winter is waning. I wanted to make some ATC (Artist Trading Card) magnets that are inspired by this one I made some time ago.
I wrote a blog post about the process for making this ATC and you can find it at this link:
https://glitteronmyface.com/2016/10/07/whats-on-my-desk-atc/
I followed the process pretty much the same as the one linked above, however, I didn’t use gesso and I added some ephemera before adding the focal points.
If you’d like to watch the YouTube video process for these magnets, here’s the link:
Here are the three ATC magnets I made.
I like the way they turned out and love the vintage look. I hope you try making some Spring inspired ATC magnets for your fridge or ATCs to gift to a friend!
Why Not?
The other day I got a new calendar type planner. I really like it because it’s small and has lots of pockets to carry important things in like stickers business cards. I had to order the page inserts and you may think that already being April the calendar inserts for 2015 would be on sale. You would be wrong! I found a shop on Amazon that had exactly what I was looking for and they only cost 10 cents. Of course shipping was $5.50, but that is still cheaper than I found them anywhere else. So while I was shopping at this particular store on Amazon I noticed they also carried some art supplies. So here is what I went online to shop for…
And here is what else I purchased…
I ordered the Sharpie markers because I saw a cool technique on Pinterest that I wanted to try. So the first things I decided to play with were…
Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol. Dollar Tree didn’t have clear alcohol so I figured I could get away using the green. The first thing I did was scribble with three colors on a piece of glossy card stock.
Then I dropped alcohol from a dropper bottle on the page.
It was supposed to blend all the colors together and look really cool. It didn’t do that much except make a few puddle marks. I was not going to quit here though so I took out the Twinkling H2Os I bought and used the orange and yellow colors to fill in the white gaps on the page.
Then I just added some background paper and images.
Added some more layers and text and then made it into a tag.
Even though this technique didn’t work how I wanted it to, I noticed the back had a really cool design caused by the alcohol bleeding through the paper. I may explore this technique in the future and use it as the main background in a project.
So next time you are shopping for something you need and you are tempted to try some new art supplies it’s okay to say, “Why not?”.
Mixed Media Fun
As you may know from reading some of my latest blogs, I am getting ready to do the Vintage Home Market Show in Richmond. I have been very busy making jewelry, aprons and home decor items for this show as well as planning which antiques to bring. All I can say is that I have not had a lot of time to “play art”. I have managed to snatch a few minutes here and there to make a couple of pieces. Three of these are in one of my art journals and the other was made on 3 magazine pages that were glued together and then covered with gesso. So without further ado, and because I’m still working on last-minute details for the show, here is a quick look at my most current mixed media pieces. Enjoy!
Fifty for Rosalie
If any of you are my friends on facebook you have seen pictures of an extremely abused dog named Rosalie. Thankfully, the saints at He’Art of Rescue haven’t given up on trying to save her. Rosalie’s story has really made an impact on my heart and I just grieve over the cruelty someone could subject this beautiful creature to. To read her story and see her picture you can go to this link:

You can also get updates on her status on that site.
Our family made a donation to help pay for Rosalie’s care, however, it is only a small drop in a big bucket. I decided to make fifty pins to sell on Rosalie’s behalf. These pins have thin wood bases and simple roll back pins.
Each pin is unique. The pictures are sanded on the edges, inked for a slightly “aged” feel and sealed. I have chosen many different themes to chose from, so there is something for everyone!!!! They would look great pinned on your jeans jacket, hat, scarf , knapsack or Spring sweaters! Ordering instructions are at the bottom of this post.
These pictures are not so great, but I assure you the pins are! The colors are much brighter and prettier in real. If you click on the pictures to enlarge them, you will get a closer look at the details.
As these pins are all unique, sales will be first come, first serve AS MONEY IS RECEIVED. I’m sorry, but I feel time is of the essence and I don’t want to “reserve” pins and then not get Rosalie’s money. You may pay through Paypal to my account at: hfhauser@verizon.net. If you live close to me, you can contact me through facebook and we can arrange a meeting and you can pay by cash or check. The pins cost $2.00 each. Shipping within the 48 contiguous United States is $3.00 (no matter how many you order) and $6.00 everywhere else (no matter how many you order). If there is an excess left over from shipping costs, I will put that in with Rosalie’s donation. I am donating 100% of the sales of these pins to that precious dog! If you don’t know me personally you may check out my Etsy shop: MossyCottage. I am a reputable seller on Etsy and Ebay (Mossy Cottage).
Please help save Rosalie by chipping in for her mounting hospital costs. One person can’t make much difference, but together we can help change Rosalie’s life!!!
