Odds and Ends

I have been really busy lately getting ready for the Big Flea this weekend in Fredericksburg, however, I have had a little time to “play” art.

I bought myself a box of Faber-Castell Big Brush Pitt Pens with some of my Christmas money so I had to try them out. For my non-artsy followers these are kind of like magic markers for adults. Pitt pens use India ink and are blend-able on non-porous surfaces. Oh, and they cost about 10 times more than kids magic markers! Anyway, I’ll show you a couple of things I did with my new toys.

I used the markers to shade around the candles and the words to make them blend better into the page. I also used a brown marker to age the edges of the page.

I also colored these tags with the markers. You can really see how they blend on the cat’s face and on the sunflower’s petals.

Another blog I posted recently showed a cigar box that was given a face lift with vintage wallpaper from a renovation I’m helping with. Here is another box I’ve up-cycled with vintage wallpaper from the same house.

I think it came out as cute as the first one I made.

Lastly I made a journal for a friend of mine who just turned 50. She is of French ancestry and loves French things. She just recently returned from a trip to France.

If you look closely at the top you will see two glass charms I attached to the binding. I just learned how to wire wrap beads and make a rosary loop on the top of beads. Yeah for learning new things and a big shout-out to Carrie Wright for teaching me those techniques!

Well, that is all for this post. I hope you enjoy looking at my new projects and are enjoying creating things yourselves. Stay tuned for my next post in a day or two and I’ll show you a cute St. Patrick’s Day banner I made!
